It's been a little while since we last posted so we wanted to drop some new content for you. :)
Earlier this year, we had a chance to work with the Machine Zone team on some of the launch content for the Final Fantasy XV mobile game. Final Fantasy is a huge IP and how could we say 'No' to an opportunity like that?
The work we did on this project was primarily on the environment and building set pieces. Building these highly ornate and stylized structures required our artists to be precise. Our team of artists had to make sure all the measurements and dimensions were spot on while maintaining the art style and aesthetics of the FF franchise. It was certainly an assignment for both the right AND left brain.
Even though the final images of the architectural pieces appeared small on the tablet and phone screens, it was still important that the art was true in capturing many of the fine ornate details. The art team had a lot of fun working on this project and we were inspired by Machine Zone's attention to detail in ensuring the authenticity of the FF franchise look.
Models of each building type along with all the upgrades were carefully planned out. Meshes and Maps were then created for rendering. Renders were done in separate passes and composited in the game to allow for iterative tuning.
It is beautiful to see everything coming together so seamlessly in the game. Kudos to the great work from everyone from the MZ team. Some of our work in action below:
Finally, here is one of our favorite pieces...the Gold Mine!
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
