For our recent Bead Harvest ad campaign, we wanted to create a visually engaging and dynamic creative that would capture the attention of our target audience. To achieve this, we decided to animate a close-up of a hand interacting with the game, specifically focusing on the tapping motion used to match beads.
The CGI Approach with a Fun Twist
Instead of purely relying on procedural animation or similar techniques to mimic reality, we drew inspiration from the spirit of traditional 2D animation, in a snappy, playful animation style that would match the upbeat and engaging nature of the game.
Many AI-generated videos today can sometimes have a slightly "floaty" or unrealistic quality to the movement. We wanted to avoid this by focusing on the core principles of animation. These principles, when applied to the 3D hand animations, gave the movement a sense of weight and groundedness, making it appear more fun and engaging.
Bringing it to Life in After Effects
Next, we imported these 3D animations into Adobe AE, overlaying the animated hand movements onto the recorded gameplay footage, ensuring precise synchronization.
The Result:
The combination of 3D animation with the principles of traditional 2D animation, such as the emphasis on fluid movement and keyframing, resulted in a highly dynamic and engaging representation of the tapping motion. The animation felt tactile and fun, perfectly capturing the essence of the gameplay experience and leaving a lasting impression on the viewer.
In Conclusion
This CGI-based approach, infused with the spirit of traditional animation and a focus on fun and energetic movement, proved to be highly effective for animating the fast-paced tapping motion in our Bead Harvest ad. By leveraging the power of 3D software and After Effects, and applying the principles of classical animation, we were able to create a visually playful and captivating animation that resonated with our target audience.
